What do i need to purchase to fire Nikon speedlights off camera?
I currently own a Nikon D80 and im looking to buy 2 SB-900's. I found a Pocket Wizard Plus II Transceiver that includes a MPCF adapter & PCI cable for £135, other than that i'm not sure what else i would need. I'm assuming i probably need two receivers for the Speedlights? A bit clueless here. Any help would be great

You have two options - the expensive Nikon Speedlight route, using the pop up flash as commander on your D80. You can use either SB600, SB800 or SB900 off camera, either in manual mode or TTL, and fire them wirelessly from your camera menu, adjusting the power levels of each. You don't need any other triggers for this method.
The advantage? It's built into your camera already. You can use TTL or manual.
The disadvantages? Its expensive - you have to use either a SB600, SB800 or SB900 for the system to work. The CLS system is based on an optical triggering from your pop-up flash, so is limited to line of sight and certain angles. Also doesn't perform well in bright light (outdoors).
Alternatively, forget the Nikon CLS system & go manual wireless. Get cheaper, manually controlled flashes (eg the Yongnuo 460-II is very popular at the moment in the Strobist community). It costs £41 compared to the £320 of a SB900. You will also need a set of wireless triggers - RF-602's are cheap & reliable (£27 for one transmitter + one receiver) You can buy extra receivers as you get more flashes. Far cheaper than a Pocket Wizard!!
The advantages? Cheaper system. More reliable range over distance as its a radio signal rather than optical.
The disadvantage? It can't use TTL flash, so you have to set the levels manually on the flash unit.
I started off with Nikon speedlights with my D300 because I had the CLS system & thought it would be great. I then learned the limitations of it! The TTL is often inconsistent and unreproducible, even shooting with the flashes manually set, I found its frustrating when they failed to fire over distance or whenever the flash sensor couldn't 'see' the trigger signal.
I then got a couple of cheaper flashes (YN 460-II) to use in conjunction with my Nikon SB units and bought the RF-602 triggers. I also learned how to use my flashes manually which was great and gives me far more control over the final image. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on buying expensive speedlights, because in the end there was no need. The RF-602's work fine firing all my SB units AND the YN units together.
You can use the money you've saved on buying some light stands and modifiers too (softbox, umbrella, snoot), as you won't want to shoot bare flash that often.
