About HD video capture from DSLR cameras?
Okay, the way i generally 'capture' video from DSLR after I've done filming is by removing the memory card and connecting it to the computer via a card reader.
But I just came to know about AJA Kona Lhi capture card which has a HDMI input. My canon camera also has an HDMI output as i'm sure all DSLR"s do!
But I need to know what is the difference between these two ways of capturing video on to the computer?
Is there a vast difference in the quality in the two different methods of capturing the video on to the computer? or is it the same?
Who is this capture card (i mean the AJA Kona Lhi) meant for? or for what purpose, ?
By the way, i need to do some professional video work requiring the best broadcast quality possible, so should i consider buying this AJA Kona Lhi capture card?? (its quite pricey!)
thanks!
Capturing video by means of capture cards is best used when you're in one location and need to record the video in real time. + capturing hi-def uncompressed video requires A LOT of space (several GB per minute). It's faster and easier to use the memory card for capturing video from the camera and then moving it to the computer. You're not only saving space by using the camera's video compression but transferring the video faster since you're not transferring it in real time.
