This is unlike component cords where a broader quality range is evident depending on how well the cable is able to protect the quality of the signal. The way this works is that a Category 2 cable should be used with a 1080p resolution HDTV and a Category 1 cable should only be used on TV with a resolution of 720p or 1080i.
How long-lasting a cable is should also be considered when you want to buy HDMI cables. For gadgets that are moved around a lot such as cameras, a good choice would be monster cables which are very durable. Those that are gold-plated are also hard wearing as the gold does not diminish. However, do not accept to be overcharged because of the plating.
