Why Choose HDTV?

Now that most areas have switched over from the older analogue signals to high definition television, some people wonder why the switch was necessary and what consumers actually get from the change. But its worth considering a couple of key benefits of this new technology that make television more accessible and more enjoyable to many people.  One has to do with the quality of the signal transmissions and the resulting picture quality, while the other has to do with the creation of sub-channels that offer a wider range of programmes to view.

Televisions configured for high definition offer a higher picture quality than older technologies. This a fact for all of todays feature rich television sets.  People with LCD TVs noticed a difference in the quality almost immediately once analogue signals were discontinued and the digital signalling took over.  The same was true for people who looked over different models of LED TVs, who found to their delight that the picture quality was crisper and more defined than they had known in the past.

Another benefit of HDTV technology is that it has allowed television stations to make better use of their bandwidth, often providing access to what are known as subchannels that provide additional programming to augment the viewing options found on their main channels.  This is especially welcome for people who choose to forego the expense of cable and go with over the air broadcasting for their viewing fare.  A local station may be able to simultaneously provide up to five channels to their viewers, a fact that not only delights viewers but also means additional opportunities to provide varied programming that attracts attention and increases viewership overall.

HDTV is here to stay providing higher picture quality and wider programming choices so there are many positive reasons.  As more people become comfortable with the newer technology, viewers are likely to accept it as the new standard for television and find they enjoy the wider range of options that this innovation provides.

I got an HDTV Stick tuner for my pc. It came with an portable antenna, does anyone know how to pick up cable?

My pc won't bring in anything but local channels and the CW. Do I need to take the cable for tv and plug it in to the stick or can I get some channels without having a cable tv hook up? Thanks for your time.

There is a reason the call it CABLE TV. You need a cable to get it.

FXI's Cotton Candy could turn every screen you own into a cloud client (Engadget)

It's a truth universally acknowledged, that a user in possession of a good
number of devices must be in want of a unified way to use them all. As it
stands, that mythical interface doesn't exist; but hopefully that's set to
change soon. Norway's FXI is heralding a device codenamed Cotton Candy; a USB/
HDMI stick that can connect to nearly anything that's packing a display.
Inside the stick is a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 and quad-core ARM Mali-400MP GPU
that can handle 1080p video, 802.11 b/g/n WIFi, Bluetooth v2.1 and microSD
card storage, expandable up to 64GB. Plug it into a laptop or desktop and
you'll be able to use a thin-layer client to access your personal cloud, or
via HDMI into a HDTV to be controlled using Bluetooth peripherals, smartphones
and tablets. Being able to open "your" desktop on any device means you can
conduct presentations, access media content and surf the web without ties. FXI
is a new player in the market, but the founder was previously the brains
behind Falanx, which created the technology that powers ARM's Mali GPUs. It's
working with various manufacturers with the aim of partnering up ...
